Excluding one-time items, American Eagle posted adjusted earnings of 61 cents per share. In the current quarter, American Eagle expects sales to be up by a mid-single digit percentage, which is in line with estimates of up 5%, according to LSEG. During the Covid pandemic, American Eagle spent hundreds of millions of dollars acquiring a number of shipping and distribution companies that eventually became Quiet Platforms, the retailer's internal logistics branch. Last spring, American Eagle acknowledged that Quiet Platforms wasn't performing as it had expected. To increase profits, American Eagle plans to amplify its brands by growing its namesake banner, boost Aerie's expansion and develop the activewear assortment at its Offline banner.

London CNN —An original black and white sketch of Winnie the Pooh and his good friend Piglet which languished for decades in a drawer is expected to fetch thousands when it goes under the hammer next month. According to Dominic Winter Auctioneers, which is handling the sale, the pen and ink drawing is the same as one of the final illustrations in A.A. Milne’s first book about Winnie the Pooh, published in 1926. The picture, the same as the final drawing in the first Winnie the Pooh book, languished for years in a drawer. In a press release issued by the auctioneers, Albury said the sketch is “more valuable than the majority of books on proud display in the fine [Christopher Foyle] library” – which are also available to buy. Christina Foyle was Christopher Foyle’s aunt, and daughter of bookshop founder William Foyle.

People aren't wearing bras anymore, according to American Eagle's executive creative director. As a result, American Eagle and its Aerie brand are refocusing their assortment. At least, that's what execs at American Eagle say. "Girls are wearing bra tops out," Jennifer Foyle, president and executive creative director of American Eagle and its sister brand Aerie, told investors at the company's earnings call Wednesday. Aerie, which has nearly 300 standalone stores, made up around a third of American Eagle Outfitters' sales in the first quarter.
Shares of American Eagle Outfitters dropped fell Thursday, after the company lowered its full-year outlook, even as it matched Wall Street's quarterly earnings expectations and beat revenue expectations. The mall retailer said Wednesday afternoon it now expects operating income to range between $250 million and $270 million, below the $270 million to $310 million range it had predicted in March. American Eagle lost those earlier gains, as it reported its own quarterly results after the bell, including falling profits. Net income fell about 42% to $18.45 million, or 9 cents per share, compared with $31.74 million, or 16 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Aerie's comparable sales increased 2%, but comparable sales for American Eagle's namesake brand declined 2% compared with the year-ago period.
